I've never been to a West Coast con. Hoping to go to Wizard World San Deigo at one point. Well, it's kids, they don't really notice your height in costume, it's rather fun. My sister is 5 feet even and kids thought she was Belle!
I haven't done airburshing before, this'll be a first. I do have a book that could help you, if you can track it down. If not, I could scan the pages. It's called How to Cosplay Vol. 1 Transformation and Special-Effects make-up. It has the webbing too! It covers a lot of make up used in cosplays, scars and stuff, as well as creating some prostetics. But the webbing tutorial is perfect for Lagoona. It also has airbrushing tips. And things like how to make scales on the body, to use fake nails, surgical tape, and paint to blend it into the skin. Just awesome techniques. I know Amazon.com has the book. There was suppose to be a whole series of books about cosplaying, but this is the only one I have as the others haven't come out and it's been a few years, which is a bummer. I'm also ordering A Complete guide to special effects makeup: Conceptual Artwork by Japanese makeup artists. And I don't mind exchanging tips, it's part of cosplaying!
Oh my gosh. That is funny! You're doing Rapunzel and Flynn, my friends and I have a huge Disney group too! I'll be Ariel, my sister Belle, then we have Mulan and Shang, Aladdin and Jasmine (with "Aladdin's" son being Abu), Aurora, and Esmerelda. I have to see pics of that!
It'll be my second time going to that con, I use to live in Texas and recently moved up. Luckily, Ohio has way more cons than Texas. It's really fun. Last year, I did Ariel and the kids visiting the park thought my sister and I were the real deal from the parks. One little boy kept giggling and running from my sister as Belle.
My sister's going to be Draculaura. She's so short and can sorta do her voice. The airbrushing is for the skin, by using the skin air brush, I can get even and smooth coverage. And it's less gooky than body paint. Water base also washes off easily.
That's a good idea for Deuce, acutally. I hope it works! And you're right, cosplaying with siblings is more fun. We go to every con together and try to do sister cosplays when we can. I also agree about detail. It's almost OCD. Gotta have everything, the contacts, wig, outfit, everything perfect. I've never been a staff member for a con, how is it?
And no worries about writing too much, I do the same whenever I meet someone with the same interests. It's like OMG! REALLY? ME TOO!!!
I have a cosplay.com account (Raven_li_Rowen), but haven't posted photos yet, Iolz. The chord to my camera went missing. Colossal-Con is at a indoor water park resort in Sandusky, Ohio. It's a four day con in June, sort of in the middle of nowhere, but it's a good size con, with different dance themes every night. My sister saw 80's dance and said we had to do Monster High and my friends agreed. Then we decided to do normal to take up another day, thought I'm doing both DotD Frankie and regular Lagoona since I couldn't figure out Lagoon's DotD wig, it's just too long and costly. And stripey. :p
It's really cool that you and your boyfriend are doing Cleo and Deuce, that'll be adorable! May I ask how you'll do his hair? It's gotta be fun making the snakes. And are those the only costumes your doing for that con? (I'm not sure how many days it is)
