News and Reviews of Monster High Dolls, Plush Toys, and More!

Hey don't shoot me, I am just the messenger here, but Monster High made the Christian Science Monitor's "Seven Worst Christmas Toys for Kids" list. Look for yourself:

Christian Science Names Monster High one of 7 Worst Christmas Toys

Monster High dolls are sexy ghouls for the "tween" market that were introduced virally via Youtube in 2010. These toys retail for around $20 and have names like Draculaura, Frankie Stein, and Spectra Vondergeist.

This year, the Monster High brand, which is expanding as quickly as the zombies’ sinister presence in AMC's "The Walking Dead," is a frighteningly excellent example of vertical marketing in the toy world. Tweens can wield their purchasing power to buy child-sized costumes, a feature length movie, chapter books by a well-known young adult author, and accessories, including coffins.

The Monster High dolls themselves are articulated and can be pulled apart limb-by-limb and joint-by-joint, enabling easier dressing for their skin-tight clothing. Beware of vacuuming up their hands.

Now in case you didn't know, the Christian Science Monitor is a well-regarded journal. I am not sure exactly what they didn't like about Monster High, perhaps the heavy marketing? Well, gee, if you don't like the hype, you could just as well knock Hello Kitty.

What do you think?

I'm a 33 year old mother and collector of these dolls.  My 12 year old LOVES them!  I love sewing for them and I have more dolls than my daughter!  We also have some of the most well dressed MH dolls out there =)
My mom cornered my daughter one day in the car and told her that the dolls were from hell and were evil.  I laugh!
I prefer these dolls to the Barbies I played with as a kid.  Yes, I still have all of those as well!

I'm a 45 year old parent and an aunt of 2 tweens and one 15 year old teenager who LOVE these dolls.  To all the critics of Monster High Dolls I have this to say....Thank God I have 15 year old neice still playing with dolls.  Many girls are pregnant or already mothers at the age of 13, 14 or 15 and some are even younger.  Many young girls are smoking cigarettes, drinking, smoking pot or doing other drugs by the time they are 13, 14 or 15.  Thank God they have something else, like Monster High Dolls to occupy their time and keep them acting like  a kid just a little bit longer.

As for the way these dolls are dressed, give me a break, Barbie has been wearing low cut tops, hip hugger jeans, daisy duke cut off's and spike heels for 30+ years!!  Not to mention Barbie has 15 inch waste, 44 bust and 25 hips...talking about giving young girls a poor body image because they're body is never going to look like that.

As for Monster High being a dangerous toy because of small parts being a choking hazard....These are not for small children.  Someone wrote on here that a 3 year old had one.  These dolls were not made for a 3 year old who stills puts everything in their mouth!!  The box that every Monster High Doll comes in says 6 or older.

Go find something else worth worrying about.
