News and Reviews of Monster High Dolls, Plush Toys, and More!

Hey guys! I'm sure a bunch of us have heard of the new bratz line, 'Bratzillaz'. And they are obviously a knock-off of monster high. But I was to here your opinions~

When I first heard of the bratz line, I 100% disagreed with it. I hated the fact that stupid bratz were trying to copy monster high. Then when I saw the prototype picture, I considered stealing their clothes for monster high (or my future customs). Other than that, I don't feel like supporting them, for stealing monster high's ideas.

So today, I was in toysrus looking for Monster High when I saw these cute little dolls, and they turned out to be.. Bratzillaz! They are MUCH MUCH MUCH cuter in real life. I was very very tempted to buy one (it would've been Jade). I mean I know these are 'copies' but they are pretty good. I can't stop staring at them (on flickr!),

So what are your guys' thoughts? Has anybody else 'caved in' and bought them? Has anybody else turned them down because they are copies? Or am I the only one who thinks they are pretty cute?

I don't like them. The steampunk witch is the only design I sorta like.. I won't be buying them and I'll stick to MH

I didn't buy them, but I admit they are pretty cute. I really liked the one with the two different eye colors.

Well, I love love LOVE the designs and prototypes, but the actual dolls aren't very durable. A child would have to be very gentle playing with them... but I'm an adult collector, not a child; so this isn't really a problem for me. However, be very careful removing them from the packaging - Some of them have loose heads that may or may not come clean off. I have a Yasmina with a slightly loose head, and I know of another collector whose Jade lost her head completely. Some of the joints can be loose too. I do think the glass eyes are a nice touch though.

So, for me the final verdict is... 9/10 on the designs and look of the product, but a 5/10 for quality. They don't come close to topping MH quality. Buy for collecting, but not for a child under 10 years old to play with.

Totally understandable. Monster High also has great designs and MUCH better quality.

I have heard though that there will be Bratzillaz fashion packs, so those of you who only want the clothes for MH dolls will be in luck when they come out.

I'm not going to get them because I only have enough room/money for MH.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm going crazy about Jade. And I just love the glass eyes.
And yeah, Im a 'teenage collector' and it's I don't plan on changing them, just displaying. So yeah, I'll be fine. XD

Jade and Yasmina are my favorites. But if you buy Jade and want to keep her eye mask, don't remove it. Another collector did that and the mask stretched out so much that it no longer fit properly.

It all depends on the price. I think they're an interesting rival to MH but the quality apparently sucks. I love the design for the redhead and the purple haired girl and will likely get them but they look to be a similar price to MH, just with cheap nylon frizz for hair and not very durable bodies. Hmm... MGA is good at the cheaping out.

I think it's unfair though to call them "rip offs", they're a rival to Monster high, not a carbon copy. All toy companies do this when something becomes successful, they create a rival to try to get a slice of that pie. Bratz started out to rival Barbie, My scene rivalled bratz, and round and around it goes. Normal business that. I'm just surprised it took so long for MGA to go "oh hey, let's get in on this mystical supernatural doll thing!

I honestly couldn't care less about the dolls! The thing that I'm stuck on is the name. First off, its a terrible name. It implies that they are not small cute little monster dolls but kaiju (giant Japanese movie monsters). Secondly, why hasn't Toho Pictures declared war yet? They usually don't like any one using anything with "zilla" at the end. I remember a few years ago, they jumped all over a website called "quizilla.com" They also jumped all over the five dollar footlong subway comercials that had a giant movie monster doing the five dollar foot long dance,  that they claimed was far to similar to Godzilla.

Why have they not raised all hell about this? o.o

barbie has died after 70 years

I think they are really cute! MH will always be my first love, but after seeing Jade I know for a fact if I see her in stores I will get her. I wasn't too keen on them at first but after seeing the final product pictures I think they are adorable!

I don't like the dolls. Outfit wise, they are not so bad, but if I compare the Bratzilla outfit I like the best, to the MH outfit I like the least, MH still wins.

If I did like them, I'd still stick to MH. I don't like having different dolls/toys mixed in the same display area, and I want to spare the space I have for MH, and my doll budget too.

I have fallen in love with MH for a reason, and gave up pretty much all my other collections for it, so it would take a whole lot more for me to fall in love with something new.

Other than that, this line is clearly based on MH, and by how they look I'd say they are Bratz meets Bleeding Edge Goths.

I did like the artwork for them, but MH still wins. I know it's kinda silly to be loyal to a toyline, but I am =)

IMO, Bratzillaz are an interesting rival to MH. The only problem is that they're, well, MGA, which means terrible quality and the fact that the dolls look nothing like their artwork. Also, their name is really stupid, like theshyfox said, and the names of the characters are pretty bad too.

However, the dolls aren't ugly at all. I actually like the one with lilac hair, I believe she's called Yasmina Clairvoya? But I don't think I could ever get her. It may be a little childish of me to say, but if I got Yasmina, I would want to buy another Bratzilla to keep her company- and then that would spiral to the point of me buying the whole set.

That's what happened with me and MH. I bought Cleo and Deuce, and then I wanted a girl to keep Cleo company, so I got Lagoona. Then I got Ghoulia so as to try and make her lips better (I did! :D) and a Clawdeen because she was very pretty in person. And then I decided to get Draculaura and Frankie so as to have a whole set. And then GB Jackson. And then Abbey. And then Spectra. And then.... And that's the way it has been to this day XD
