News and Reviews of Monster High Dolls, Plush Toys, and More!

I own quite a few of the dolls including Abbey, Spectra, Toralei, and Nefera (some of the more difficult ones to locate). With the exception of Toralei who I received as a gift at Christmas I've purchased all of my dolls with my own money at stores. I do refuse to look online and spend $80 on a doll that is worth $20 just because it's hard to find.

Aside from the fact that I'm 20yo, going to school, working part time and paying rent....I have very little money. Every time I go to a store that carries the dolls I go immediately to the MH section with my roommate and we search the shelves for any dolls I don't have. She doesn't collect them herself but she does customs and really likes them so she's always willing to help.

There have been occasions where I find a rare doll I need and they actually have two or more on the shelf but I NEVER pick up more than one. I've actually decided that I will start buying multiples when I can send sell them here on the forums for the exact price I paid for it in stores.

I'm sick of others buying the dolls and selling them on ebay or amazon or even here for ridiculous amounts of money. The one time I considered buying a doll from someone on the forums they wanted $40 for one claiming that the shipping, within the US, would be $20. This is not true. I have sent 5 Monster High dolls through priority USPS mail for $8 all together. The dolls are not that heavy therefore the shipping is not that much. If you overnight it, 2 days it, or even send it first class then yes it will be more. But $40 each? That's just being greedy.

Even though I know this won't get through to a lot of you, I'm encouraging you all to STOP buying the dolls on amazon and ebay and STOP paying 3x their retail price and MAYBE we can get those people to either lower their prices or stop selling all together. I may just be dreaming but what's the point in lining their pockets? When you pay $50 for a $20 (less) doll you're telling them that you'll pay even more so they're only raise their prices. This is really getting out of hand.

I also want to address one more things that's been annoying me. I've seen a few people who have purchased more than one (just using her as an example) Cupid doll, keeping one pristine and customizing the other. The only reason this upsets me is because it's already hard enough to find her without these people buying one just to customize. I want to use Spectra for one of my OCs but I refuse to until it's normal to see her in stores (if that ever happens) because I know others are still looking for her. I understand how lucky one is to find more than one of these dolls seeing how hard they are to locate but it just angers me :/

Since I've used rationality in this post and have been careful not to offend anyone or use strong language please respect me by doing the same. I am in no way trying to start arguments and will not respond to attacks.

Edit: Alright I know it's difficult not to get angry at others on the internet. I'll admit that I have a very short fuse and my temper gets the best of me more often than not. But I have been nothing but respectful to all of you and I expect you to be the same. I do not appreciate this forum being filled with rude names. This website is full of both minors and adults so I hope that the adults at least will hold their tongues. If you're angry please step back from your computer until you can reply calmly and rationally. Thank you.

An amen to you! I agree completely!

I also get angered when I see people who buy more than one rare doll, just to customise the other. Its like, uhm, hello? I'm still looking for one of those! ¬_¬ selfish....

Yes I know its their money, and their right to do whatever they want with it. But c'mon people! You know that feeling you get when your looking for ages for one doll that you really need, well imagine feeling tat, and then seeing that someones ripped a head of one off, or used the body for a CAM. I'm close to literally CRYING when I see things like this happening.

And just like you, I'm not trying to offend anyone. Thats just my views.

I understand buying and extra one or two to resell for a small profit. I did it with first wave clawdeen, sold several to people in europe who couldn't find her anywhere, That said, I only made about £5 profit each time. I listed them at what they cost me (retail + listing fees) and then let people bid. people will only pay what they're willing to pay after all.

But I always felt a bit bad buying a doll I knew I didn't really want. Sure I was helping out others but at the same time, someone else would miss out. I dunno, it was an odd dilemma,

what annoys me is the people who drive stre to store and ransack the shelves. picking up an extra doll to resell is one thing, picking up 30 is just greed! Especially when you jack the prices up to 3 times retail.

Why do people even pay that? sure we all want these dolls, but are we that desperate? unfortunately, demand fuels these scalpers. There are people out there paying stupid money for these dolls and for every sale, that encourages the seller to do it again.

me? I won't pay more than a couple of quid above retail. I'm patient, I can wait. My wallet will thank me,

YES! I've only got one doll from the web, and that was spectra, but someone was selling her for normal price.

And THANK YOU for saying about people making customs with hard to find dolls! I'm about to die just looking for Cupid and now a ton of people are making customs with her and it makes me want to cry. :( If they lived in IN they would'nt be making customs with her, at all! At least no one has made a costom with Abbey... yet. It kinda bugs me yen some people buy two of each doll, and keep one in a box, i don't now why it just bugs me. Oh, and never preorder, on ebay cause freaks charde like 1,000$ just for a roller skate one. 0_0

The thing about the people who buy more than one of the hard to find dolls, is if they aren't getting more than one in your area, then it shouldn't matter. Say you are in New Mexico and I'm in North Carolina. How is me getting more than one affecting you? Not the people in my area, you specifically. I totally understand what you're saying if people in your area do it, but if someone who isn't near you is doing it, it shouldn't affect you because those dolls are nowhere near you. At least they aren't selling the dolls for an outrageous price.

Oh, one time on i pic of a custom cupid, i told them how it bugs me that they make a custom of cupid, and she's hard to find.

They sayed that they had a ton at walmart and stuff.

whatever happens i'll still be upset... :(

I see your point I too have been looking for Deuce Gorgon but the only way to get was to buy the gift set with Cleo and I was looking for him on eBay alone he was selling for $99 dollars plus shipping that is just outrageous for a doll alone and with out any clothes and accessories just the doll. People are just crazy and take advantage of those people looking for dolls they can't find. So good work for standing up for yourself and all of those who see your point as me being on your side.

I totally agree with you.  I work in retail and I've only bought the dolls that I need, granted I have a CAM pack hidden for my custom doll but still that just one thing.

Unfortunately I had to purchase Cupid on Ebay.  My husband bought her especially for me for our 4th wedding anniversary.  Ebay was the last resort for him.  He had people looking in 3 major cities and everywhere else and no one had her. I have a really strong feeling that we will have to resort to that again for the 'Werecat Twins Set' and the 'Werewolf Sisters Set' because we do not have a Target or a Toy r Us near by.  It's so sad TT^TT

I'm not speaking of the stores in my area. I'm talking about the people all over the US who are buying the dolls in bulk and selling them online for 3x the retail price. I could care less if someone in my area buys more than one of the dolls for themselves. You completely missed the point of this post.

Now customs I figure are someone's own right to do, I mean, it's their doll, they can draw all over her in sharpie for all I care. It's the resellers who snap up every doll in a 10 mile radius. Gods, imagine how much fuel they're using up on that errand?

It's creating a demand, and I think that's what winds me up the most. If these people didn't go and buy up 37 Cupids, then there wouldn't be a shortage of them in stores! you know? They create a demand and then people get desperate and start forking out stupid money. Only way to stop it is to just remain patient. Even if it sucks, we can't give in and feed this behavior you know?

I'm still waiting for Operetta to show up over here, but I can wait a while longer before I get grumpy and annoyed. I spent months trying to locate first wave Lagoona and Ghoulia back when they were released, but it gave me something to do. I suppose i'm one of those odd people who rather enjoys the hunt heh.

You really can't be mad at the resellers. They do this with any item out there that is hot. It's Mattel's fault here. The doll supply is limited everywhere. If you check ebay and search for Monster High doll auctions that are close to you you will see how many resellers are in your area. In my case there's a couple but not so many that the shelves are as clean as they are. There is a definite supply issue from the manufacturer! If the shelves were filled to begin with there wouldn't be a problem.

For those who do customizations I do understand the want to customize many different dolls. What annoys me is that they do it with new/rare dolls. If you're lucky enough to find two, how can you possibly buy it just to change it completely? On one occasion I was able to find a second Spectra after purchasing my own which I promptly sent to a friend overseas who was not able to purchase it. If I did not have someone else who wanted her for their collection I would have left her for another person waiting to find her.

But how are the shelves meant to remain full if one person goes and buys each one?
