News and Reviews of Monster High Dolls, Plush Toys, and More!

I remember seeing this topic a while back, but can't seem to find it anymore!

I've bought some Staedtler Ergosoft coloured pencils (24 for £8.88 on amazon.com as opposed to £7.50 for 12 in Tesco!) and wanted to know if they'll work well on the soft vinyl heads of Monster High dolls?
Want to try my hand at drawing the face-up instead of painted acrylic :3

I'm sure they will, they're pretty soft but bold and stay sharp well.

Anyway, onto the questions:
Does anyone have experience with Staedtler coloured pencils? What about experience drawing with them on dolls?
What other coloured pencil brands work well? Which brands don't draw on the plastic well?
Do any stain/ruin the plastic?

Thanks :3

you don't draw straight onto the plastic.  you use a sealer first, Mister Super Clear or Vallejo nontoxic or some other one that doll people say is ok.  and choose a matte finish so the pencils can take.  and let it dry really well... then you can draw.

google some combinations of colored pencil or watercolor pencil and repaint dolls and you should find some tutorials.

I know that, to give the pencil more 'tooth'.MSC isn't available in the UK, I managed to get my hands on Warhammer/ Citadel pure-seal which works very well on my BJDs and other MH customs.I know how to do it, just want to know what brands are best. Can't seem to find anything! :\

i know of a professional who uses pastels and water color pencils. she also youtubes the face ups and  answers questions and tells which brands she uses. if i find the artist i'll let you know

sorry i wasn't paying attention to who posted, just trying to help avoid troubles.

not sure on brands but i think the better quality w/c pencils are softer and so would be easier to work with, so go with the best ones that you can reasonably afford?

I've always used watercolor pencils on my resin dolls, then use Mr. Superclear to seal the work. If and when I want to remove the work I simply use a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser to take it all off. Not certain how this would affect a vinyl material.

both those are commonly used on vinyls, too.

I've learned something new, thanks!

what's the best water color pencils and what does one think about mod podge as a sealant. Froggy on youtube uses mod podge to see her dolls and other items.
