Short Review of the NEW Dora doll (If you want a "Dora and the Lost City of Gold" Dora doll, either buy the official doll dirt cheap, and perform a head swap, or customize a different doll!) GRRR!

Hello,

So, as you may know, I recently received three newly-ordered dolls, including the official Dora doll from this year's live-action Dora movie, "Dora and the Lost City of Gold"; I just de-boxed her yesterday, so here's a very short review:

The doll looked really pretty when she was still in the box! I mean that she looked more lovely, face-wise, than most Mattel dolls (She's by Just Play)! She arrived with a backpack and her sidekick, Boots the monkey.

She was pretty easy to remove from the box, and even though she had "Box Hair", there were no ugly T-tags to remove from her head, so I was doing the mental version of "The Happy Dance"!

That's where the fun ended, because, as I examined the doll, I began to notice an entire host of really, really disappointing flaws.

Her hair is a little bit sparse in the back, but that's nothin' compared with her other issues! Her vinyl feels like that of a doll that you might find at The Dollar Store; it feels as though it's so cheap that it could deteriorate at any moment! Her gorgeous, fairly thick, dark hair is full of product, which, when brushed out, comes out in white flakes! She should never have been articulated (Why the Sam Hill did Just Play bother?), because her "articulated" joints are about as useful as false eyelashes on a freakin' cow! That is to say that her elbow, wrist, and knee joints barely move at all! Boots will literally not stay upright unless his left paw is placed into a permanently downward position

Just Play tried to make the doll look more modest than Isabela Moner, who portrays Dora in the live-action movie (The doll barely has a chest), and the clothing is fairly cheap, but those aforementioned aspects of the doll really, really offend me, because good money was paid for a unique doll with a really lovely face, and the doll was basically the worst rip-off that I've ever seen in my entire bleeping life!

I feel just like a 7-year-old child who earned a gobsmacking amount of money (for a kid, anyway), was rewarded with a trip to the toy store with her mother, and is now crying after her first lesson about the unfair economic practices of Quality Control-lacking corporations! I'm not crying, but I literally feel that cheated! I mean, Dumbledore and Draco, who were disappointing, only cost me about $10.00 each, but Dora cost me roughly $22.00! Twenty-two freaking dollars....for the qualities of a Dollar Store-style doll? Twenty-two dollars? Gag me! I'd like to gouge my eyes out with a spork, or dunk my entire face into swamp water! It's just highway robbery!

So, in short, either wait until this doll is going for dirt cheap, and then perform a head swap, so that she'll have a better body, or just customize a different doll into Dora.

Hello, Thrifty,

You're welcome. I totally wish that she hadn't been such a disappointing doll.  :(

oh dear such a shame about all that, I will have to pass too, I did have a niggling feeling that she would be cheaply done had no idea she would have this many issues though.

Hello, Jesy,

Yes, she does have a lot of issues.  :(  You're probably better off passing on that one.

Hello,

Sooo....I was finally able to remove her head, and the neck and the neck knob are weirdly small, and now, I need a new body that's the same shade as the old one, and one that has a similar neck / that can accommodate Dora's head, and I can't think of any that would be a match, in any sense of the word. I really, really don't want to return that head to that stupid body. One of the shoulder joints even looks botched. I just can't bring myself to put poor Dora's head back onto that monstrosity.

Hilariously enough, I took her head off right before my shower, so I just took Dora's head into the shower with me, so that I could shampoo and condition her hair right after I washed my own hair! LOL! I almost forgot to take her head out of the shower, and then, I realized that it was still in there, and that somebody else would be awfully frightened if they just got into the shower....and saw Dora's head staring up at them from the corner shower "seat". ROTFLOL!

So, I'm officially....exploring....around for a new body for Dora, preferably one with big(ger) boobs and articulation. LOL!

Hello,

So, you know that I removed Dora's head, and that I washed her hair.

Well, tonight, I decided to see if any of the doll bodies that I have would match Dora's. I really, really, really wanted an articulated body, so I settled for the lightest of my S.I.S. dolls, but, guess what? The doll's actual neck was way too large, as were the necks of several other dolls that I tried. I had a battle with Dora's neck knob in order to get Dora's head back on, and, once, in trying to move one of her wrists, it began to crack, plus the kitten decided that Dora's hair would be good to chew on. LOL!

I wonder why I have this strange feeling that I'm going to be shopping for a "Barbie as Dora" doll soon? LOL! Anyway, I think that my new Made to Move (TALL) Basketball Player Barbie will make a good Barbie version of Sammy from the new Dora movie! I've already readjusted her ponytail style, so that she looks more like Sammy.

Well, wish me luck, 'cause I'm gonna need it, since there don't seem to be any light rosy-brown-skinned, dark-haired Barbies out there with petite to average builds (that will match any MtM body) ....and bangs!
