News and Reviews of Monster High Dolls, Plush Toys, and More!

A friend on LJ got Rochelle early and posted scans of her diary. I don't want to poach her pics, as I don't know how she feels about re-posting scans she made, but I did transcribe the whole diary for the MH wiki and you guys can read it here. :D

Quick summary of the highlights:

Rochelle has a huge crush on Deuce. Since she's made of stone, she's unaffected by his petrifying gaze, and Deuce seems impressed and pleased by that.

Rochelle has an overprotective side, and tries to protect Ghoulia so much that Ghoulia has to tell her to back off.

Mention of the Roller Maze AND Robecca! Robecca and Rochelle are skating together and get pranked by Toralei--they wind up bonding over this. Robecca later tells Rochelle that she should give up on Deuce.

Overall, good stuff in there. :3 Rochelle has won me over, she's got a very cute, nurturing personality.

Now that I think of it, Rochelle and Deuce would be a cute couple! :P

She is SO CUTE! And oh man, her crush on Deuce is adorable. It's sweet and kinda sad at the same time.

Good thing I own two Deuce dolls aye? She can have one, Cleo the other ahahahah.

Now I just have to eagerly await her and Jackson's appearence in the UK. Ooo it's gonna be hard.

Cool! Read it! I love how she has a crush on Deuce! He turns people into stone, she is stone...how romantic! But I still love Cleo+Deuce xxx

Can your freind go and add her diary, on the MH wiki? I'm dying to read it!

It is on the MH wiki. I linked it above, because I spent 20 minutes this morning typing it up from her scans. ;P

Going with that Parrotbeak-opinion:

"I like how Rochelle's diary contains so many names and establishes so many relations. Especially her bond with D'eath is awesome - it was about time a MH employee besides Bloodgood got some honest development! Not overly fond of Rochelle's inability ot get stay away from Deuce - I am really, really, really not waiting for an Operetta II: The Dramatic Edition. I'm not even sure I can unsderstand that a supposedly protective person who is good friends with the girl who is best friends with the girl that's in an important relationship with the boy she fancies can be so neglectful about considering Cleo's feelings on the matter. Rochelle seems to be holding back because she knows Deuce won't give up Cleo, not because she has any consideration for Cleo, despite a shared friendship."

I think Rochelle+Deuce is good cuz they match up.

Exactly. Yes, okay, I tolerated the Operetta thing because I thought it was an one-time thing, but again? Nooooo way. (Although, poor girl... I know how she feels)

However, Rochelle sounds like a sweetheart :) From her diary, she seems really cool. Nice to see that!

Deuce is just the most desirable guy at Monster high it seems lol. Cleo's a lucky gal.

Does Mr. D'eath remind anyone else of... well... a certain other Grim Reaper who's very fond of cats? I'm not saying it IS a Discworld reference, but that is kind of specific. And it'd be cute if it were a nod to everyone's favorite anthropomorphic personification. :3

You also have to remember that these are monster teenagers who are not always in control of their emotions and Rochelle by her own admission is "hasty" for a gargoyle. Besides, she's from Scaris where unrequited love is a rite of passage. ; )

Point, but it's certainly something that leaves me hoping it's a story that won't be limited to the diaries and will find elaboration in other media (assuming the diary frequency won't be upgraded so that the diaries can handle the story themselves) in a non-repetitive manner. Rochelle has managed to be the first character I find (partially) unsympathetic, but I'm not saying that's a bad thing or that this means she's lost to me forever.

The thing that draws me most to MH is the franchise's ability to make even it's designated awful characters at least understandable, Van Helscream and Nefera being my favored examples. With Rochelle, I find that lacking in the diaries as it currently is. I think she's in a fragile situation holding onto that which makes her feel secure, but on the other hand, she's written as so incredibly confident, pro-active and able that I can't bring myself to believe there is a burden I should feel sorry for her for. And this also is why I can't sympathize for her kinda creepy behavior around Deuce. I don't believe her want of him is sincere enough to explain her limited rational and ethical handling of the situation. Not as it is, at least. But she's not the only girl who's been after Deuce or the only girl Deuce took a liking to, and every one of them as well as Deuce and Cleo came out of it better, so I can't imagine that Rochelle won't.

Although that's of course also one of the problems I'm looking at here: as much as I want elaboration to find sympathy and further like for Rochelle, I've also seen this plot several times before. I've seen Deuce be cluelessly dragged into accusations of cheating, and I've seen Cleo be heartbroken, and I've seen others realize they've messed up or were to mess up. It's like there won't come an end to it. At this point, things start kinda falling apart. Deuce and Cleo's relationship becomes so oft-questioned that a simple "She makes me want to be a better Deuce" loses its edge and Deuce's character gets burdened with the question what exactly makes him so desirable (sure, he's like Lagoona in that he's an extremely socially adapt person, but still, Lagoona's only ever had one suitor).

In short... I have mixed feelings about this, which I figure's starting to become a running theme with Rochelle for me. I like what I like about her and doubt what I don't like. I guess I'll have to wait before I can afford to judge Rochelle's diary and see what it is an introduction to.

(Though if you could answer, will Rochelle's crush get elaboration or won't it?)
