News and Reviews of Monster High Dolls, Plush Toys, and More!

In the last discussion, purple monkfish stated that we need to not trade. SO... WHY IS THERE A "TRADE" IN THE BUYING/SELLING SECTION?

It's ridiculous for people (moderators, no less) to tell you to beware and just sell, to use PayPal. It frees them from any responsibility and is a condescending way to respond to members of the forum.

It's also ridiculous to close off a discussion that is of interest in the forum.

We're buying dolls.
Some we can only obtain be trade because of price, location or whichever reason.

WHY can't people who have been scammed and see the individual remain on the site voice their concern?
This community is based on doll collecting and I think the staff here should be mindful of that.

So you're basically threatening to remove the trading section because we speak up? Ooookay, that doesn't sound twisted at ALL.

People should be banned for scamming members.I'm not asking for the mods to haze someone, but if I provide proof and other people are able to speak about being slandered by a member as well, WHY is this person not having consequences?

It's exactly what happened in my case, and the member in question freely posts here. After providing my evidence the mods were not even graceful enough to respond -I was just left with waiting - it's been 2 months.

There's clearly a problem

I do agree to the appropriate extent that if a trade or even a purchase goes awry, that the mods and admins on this site do not need to claim responsibility.  However, it is proper to look into matters and ban members who do not uphold their ends of the bargain or fail to provide thorough compensation.  On a site I moderate on, we have a similar Buying/Trading/Selling forum, and we have it disclaimed rather visibly that we are not responsible for failed transaction, but we will do our best to keep members who are obvious con artists away from that section and if necessary off the boards in general.

At any rate, how the mods do things here is not my place to speak since I don't quite have the experience with this particular forum.  Just wanted to add my two cents on the matter.  I think in general, trades still have validity and can be safely done, but they need to have some sort of collateral to encourage each trader to uphold their end of the bargain.  This can be financial or material.  Also, forums are good for offering to buy/trade/sell items, but the actual transaction should never be done on site.  There are plenty of sites for this specific purpose, and I don't think a message board is one of them, even if they do have the option.

It is sad that you feel you were scammed. However, It does read "At your own risk" . Please don't blame the moderators for your misfortune.

I haven't said anything about this, I've just been watching, but what's really sad, especially for the people who did not receive their trade, is that said person in question took the time to create positive feedback for themselves.  I haven't had it happen here, but I did have it happen on another site that was for their currency.  Someone had about 10 or 12 positive feedbacks, so I sent them the money for shipping for my Ghoulia and Cleo, and nothing.  No dolls, no contact, no nothing.

So it's not just the people who are crying "scammer" at fault.  In the case of new members, I've seen people tell them they have to trade first.  But when many people have traded with a person, and the feedback is positive, you should feel safe, not like someone is making a buffer so they can run off with some nice dolls without you suspecting anything until it's too late.

I understand their are risk when trading I am in no way blaming anyone other then the scammer ...  but this person had all positive feedback until recently  ... my main concern is that this person is still on here trying to sell and trade with people and any warning post about this person are being shut down I don't want other people getting scammed by them when at least 6 people have been already ...

Guys... we are NOT set up to police trades, there's just no way to keep track of it. What are we supposed to do? come knock down the door of every stupid kid who cons people?

We cannot offer protection for trades, they are done at your own risk and while ideally we'd love for people not to have problems, they ARE a problem. Our options here are either ban trades completely, or continue as we are where you have zero protection and people are likely to be conned again.

Unfortunately there's always a few bad seeds who ruin it for everyone.

We moderators are doing what we can, we're trying our best. Please don't turn against us, we really are wanting what's best for the community.

I don't want users accused of fraudulent behaviour to have access to this section of the forums, which involves a lot of digging through posts and deleting or locking threads as appropriate to prevent further trades. It's a lot of work, but the hope WAS that instead of flat out banning the person, perhaps they'd actually fix the situation. After all, that positive feedback etc, we wanted to give benefit of the doubt and allow them a chance to make it right with those they'd wronged.

As for banning, the problem there is it's all too easy to come back under a whole new name and do it all again. The system is deeply flawed and we're looking into what we can do to tighten things up.

remember, we are on your side. Unfortunately there's only so much we can actually do right now.

Does that mean the software the site uses doesn't have IP banning tools or IP-match tools or something of that sort which would allow the mods to detect a ban evader?  Seems a bit weird to me, but again, not my place.

Is it possible to perhaps have a minimum post count before allowing users to make use of the Buying/Selling/Trading forum?  From my own experience, and this is only my experience, scammers are far less likely to target a site that requires commitment.  So that could possibly discourage ban evasion.  Whatever the case, I'm sure you'll find some way to work it out that works for this forum. ^^;

i'm not sure Tara, thing is there's ways around IP bans anyway. If you know what you're doing.

There was some talk of minimum posts. Stu's looking into solutions.

We'll get there i'm sure.

I think if there's proof enough, the mod should ban member. Other than that, it's at your own risk. I do find it interesting though that as soon as members pool resources and find info to share about the person who scammed them, the thread gets shut down.

But like I said, I know it was at my own risk to trade. But if the person is a proven scammer, the mods really do need go give them the boot.

I have a safe place to discuss scammers if you want to. Takes the pressure off the mods here. But you'll have to PM me because every post I've ever seen or posted myself about other doll forums (and I mean not Monster Hight dolls) has been deleted.

May I ask who is blaming anyone here ... other then the scammers ?

If the person in question is, as you say a proven scammer and you trade with them then its your fault and only yours. There is a very simple solution. Mail fraud is a serious crime in the united States and assuming you shipped the trade you should have their address. Contact your post office immediately and file a complaint.

It would be very sad if we lose a place to trade because people are not taking responsibility for their own foolishness and expecting the mods to take punative action. Its not their job!

I agree with you but in the particular case I'm involved in, the person scammed a bunch of people at once. We didn't know and till that point, he had all positive feedback. Good advice though!
