Need to decide on a doll to buy - and fast! (What's a good 'first' MH doll?)

So it's three days until my sister has her 'grown up' birthday (Cute, isn't she?). And I have to decide on a doll for her! Monster High is her favourite atm, (after she got the screaming out of her system when she couldn't get a Disney 'Frozen Doll') , and now she wants her first Monster High doll. But it's so hard to decide! Will she want a new one, ie Clawdia or Elissabat, or perhaps one of the original's?

What do you think?

Do you know who her favorite character is? I would go with one of those if you do know. If you aren't sure who her favorite character is, then go with a favorite monster. I actually got into MH due to the fact that I am a huge classic monster fan. I love the old Universal monster movies, so this doll line is perfect for me.

If you don't any of those, then go with with her hobbies or likes. If she likes swimming or water sports, go with Lagoona. If she likes fashion, go with Clawdia. If she's a vegetarian or just loves animals, go with Draculaura or Jane Boolittle. These dolls have a bit of something for everyone. Good luck!

Try to get her one that fits her personally and taste. I don't think new characters are the best for a first doll.

If she likes to write stories draculaura would be a good choice

If she likes rules and enforcing them Rochelle would be a good choice.

If she loves the protecting the ocean environment Lagoona would be a good choice.

If she loves protecting the land environment Venus would be a good choice.

If she likes to design clothes clawdeen would be a good choice.

If she likes to play sports Rebecca would be a good choice.

If she likes music Operetta would be a good choice

If she likes gossip spectra would be a good choice

If she is shy and works hard on her school work ghoulia would be a good choice

If she is honest and trustworthy abbey would be a good choice.

If she wants to grow up to be just like you howleen would be a good choice

I wouldn't suggest getting cleo or toralei or the twins for a first doll since some little girls don't like them. I wouldn't suggest a boy either since most girls want a ghoul first. The dolls above would be the ones i would consider a good choice. Hope this helps.

A good idea might be an old one and a new one. Example: Spectra Vondergeist and Honey Swamp.

Do you think your sister will want to change the doll's clothes? Is she the kind of kid who wants things 'just-so' or doesn't care if things match? Fashions for MH dolls are notoriously in scarcer supply than individual dolls. Newer characters like Honey Swamp, Elissabat, etc. will have no outfits specifically designed for them, other than the clothes on their backs. Which is no problem whatsoever if your sister is a kid who likes to leave the dolls' outfits as-is, but if your sister is into doll clothes and is going to want clothes that 'go' with the theme/coloring of her doll, then I recommend one of the I Love Fashion dolls. I saw plenty of I Love Fashion Scarahs and Clawdeens in my local Toys R Us earlier this week, and, having just checked Amazon, ILF Frankie is available for basically the same price as the list price of the current dolls! Scarah's eyes scare some folks (not me; I think she's gorgeous - but my grown-up sister is freaked by her!), but Clawdeen and Frankie are both really attractive dolls in their own right (especially if your sister doesn't mind darker, more dramatic makeup), and they have the advantage of coming with outfits right in the box.

If fashions aren't a major consideration for your sister, then I would pick based on your sister's favorite colors/how she personally likes to dress. Frilly dolls if she likes frills; sporty dolls if she's more sporty. If she's eclectic and has unpredictable tastes, then maybe pick a doll whose facial expression reminds you of your sister?

I'm just wondering how old your sister is? :) If she's pretty young she'll probably be happy with a newer doll that she's seen in stores and won't really care to much about older ones (unless you show her pics of them of course). Ask her who her favourite character is or ask if she has a favourite doll, get a doll of that character if there is one available. I think you'd be safe picking a newer one like Honey Swamp or Viperine, she'll probably be happy whatever she gets as long as it is monster high :)

She's going to be 10. Lol, she's a bit of a diva so I don't think she'll be happy with whatever she gets XD But thank you all for your suggestions!

Thank you all so much for your replies! I've decided on Clawdeen, because she is a little fashionista too! Thanks again!

Clawdeen is a pretty good bet, she's always so different in her releases and the new scaremester one currently out is gorgeously vivid and has some awesome details.

Excellent choice. I recommand getting Black Carpet Clawdeen. She's truly magnificent and very stylish and elegant. Plus, she's about between $15.00 and $20.00 right now. She's a great doll to debut a collection. And I'm not even a Clawdeen fan, lol! ;-)

I think Clawdeen will be the perfect choice then. She has some very beautiful and stylish dolls. Maybe you can find her I love fashion doll. It's a beautiful doll with some cute outfits to get her started. I hope she loves whichever doll she gets!
