I'm sure this is a thread already but I figure I'd start a fresh one so I can read everyone's response as it comes.
Recently I decided to take a new approach on collecting my dolls, nothing drastic but different. When I started collecting Monster High, I was the collector that needed it ALL and by all I meant all the dolls and what I referred to as their "things" (beds, cars, etc.), I even had dolls from certain collections I wasn't fond of or "things" I could do without. I literally had every line and every one of their "things" up until the Wave 3 release. My room was becoming a Monster High museum and I was running out of shelf space.
I decided that from now on I would ONLY 100% stay up to date on "basics" or the first version of a doll and ONLY collect the dolls I truly loved (ss lagoona, so clawdeen, lagoona, favorite fashion packs) or the one time release dolls within a line (Gil, Cupid, Clawd in SO forbitten combo) I figured it would help with moderation and give my wallet a break.
I'm holding on the to my complete 1600 and classroom because they have sentimental value because I got them on my birthday Draculaura and I shared birthday parties on her Sweet 1600! :)
So anyway, I'm interested to know how you collect? Are you an everything person? Are you a certain lines person? Are you a one character person? Do you buy in mass like entertainment earth? Do you just collect what you can get? Do you only trade?
Hmmm.. started out only collecting the 'first' of each new character. But ... I just loved the accessories and shoes etc of the new waves that came out and ended up buying what I liked .. which has been almost all of them so far. Don't qute know how I'll go with space either .. lol
I work with kids and we were discussing monster high we quesstimate that that you would spend on average $20 a doll, if you even out the prices of the expensive dolls with the cheap dolls, if you collect every doll by the end of the year, just one of each, you would have ended up spending at least $2000 SOOOO MUCH CHEDDAR
I collect the Basics(Or the only version of that character out at the time, such as;Gil, C.A Cupid,Scarah, and HooDude.), I can't stand having like fifty thosand dolls of the same character. When I get all the once out for the moment or whatever, I will get allthe CAMs.After that I might get all the playsets. Oh, and now that we have a big pool in our back yard my niece wants me to get all of the beach lines(Gloom Beach and Skull Shores).
I'm totally like that! I need a doll!!! haha even if I just walked in to get a soda

I only really collect basic dolls , but some times i have that problem where i cant walk out the store without buying anything ( im 13 aand do chores for money and basics are expensive ) so i get a dead tired or something
I try only to get one of each character type since my twin girls share a set of dolls and I am unemployed. My son however, wanted a few so now he has a few boys and a girl to play with (I would still like to find him a Holt). I mainly prefer to get one of each character type when I can afford to. I am okay with having a few duplicate dolls if they are affordable or I can trade for them. I want to create custom dolls so I will try to make something with duplicates such as the Ghost Rider-like skull head doll I made for my son's birthday.
I collect the ones I like and for the most part one of each character (girls only) I do have my exceptions... I have two Abbeys, 2 Draculauras, 2 Neferas, and 5 Clawdeens. Oddly enough I never cared for Clawdeen until recently and now I just want all her dolls -__- But I absolutely hate that they take up so much space! So at the moment I'm debating if I should sell Operetta since she's my least favorite doll. Also, I do buy most of the dolls just so I can have the outfits and just sell the doll (I like to change their outfits out often)
I just buy my favorites, but I have to really love them. I'm kind of picky about it, if I don't like their clothes/makeup/hair I'll just save my money. Ghoulia is the only one of my favorites that I've loved every doll of her made.
I tend to just buy what I like, but sometimes I'll just grab whatever is cheapest for customs. I do like to have 1 of every character with their stock face ( though not always their stock outfit) however.
I used to only collect Draculaura but stopped up to her SS version because they are just making too many of her at one time. I also have a couple of other characters from the 2/3 packs such as clawd, dawn of the dance clawdeen and frankie, fearleading cleo and ghoulia. I also bought wave 1 Frankie Stein because I thought she looked cute and also spectra, cupid and abbey. Since Operetta came out I started collecting only her because I just love dolls with masks! (I love masquerade masks and collect them). I only decided to try and collect one character because I know trying to collect all is too much and won't have any room for them.
