I actually rather like discussions that discuss animation styles. So which do you prefer?

I'm honestly more in favor of the CGI style. I was never impressed with the Flash stuff. The CGI style definitely has more effort put into it for one and I just like seeing the characters from all angles. And as well limitless expressions and movement.

I admit the CGI animation isn't absolutely amazing, it's no Pixar animation, and I'm not a huge fan of the already shaded colours on the models rather than just make a light source to add the shading. But for me, the CGI I think works better for them. I think most of the characters look better honestly. Like Cleo, I really never cared for how her hair looked in the Flash animation. Plus am I the only one that notices how almost every character has one eye smaller than the other? Eyes don't get shorter when the head is slightly turned, they just get skinnier! A weird nitpick I can never get over when a new character is added and one of their eyes is always smaller than the other. I also think most of the boys look better in CGI. And I like how almost all the characters look very much like their dolls.

Though I really don't like Clawdeen's hair at all in CGI. Way too overly shiny.

I definitely think Jackson and Holt look better in the CGI. I was always so bothered by how they looked in the 2-D. Again, not horrible but I never cared for it.

Though if I am to pick any type of animation style that MH has done so far it'd be the commercial 2D animation mainly cause compared to the Flash animation used for the webisodes and the CGI used for the specials, it doesn't look half assed. I would love for it if they did a whole special in that animation style. They'd of course would need a bigger budget than what they get for the webisodes and CGI specials. But given the fact that they're apparently the 2nd best selling doll line out there, it probably wouldn't take too much time to get that budget.

Don't think they'll ever do it but it'd be interesting.

I never saw that in them to be honest. Though to be fair the basic look for Monster High was likely taken from Bratz with the large eyes, puffy lap, petite bodies, etc.
idk I can compare the Bratz CGI to the MH one and see many differences as well as see that the MH animation has more effort put into it.
But agree to disagree.

My parents were alright with me watching almost whatever I wanted :P.

Within reason of course.

I agree with the CGI being lacking.....  they look all weird when they talk, and everything is so...floaty and weightless...

The 2D is so stylish and cute, and you get wonderful background characters!  The backgrounders in the CGI stuff are either cobbled together bits from other character, recolored (there's a lot of off- Toraleis) or just plain ol silhouettes of students!

While I'm usually on the 'Give CGI a chance!' front. I too think the MH CGI looks... off. Can't place my finger on it, but it just doesn't work for me. I think it's the uncanney valley, but I'm not too sure.

I'm trying to acustom myself to the CGI.  But I can't.  It's too shiny.

I love the CGI, it is cute and I like the way they look like the dolls, my parents said that too when I showed them the new amimation.

I mean look at Lagoona's face in the flash animation, it isn't like in the artwork or in the doll, which is round and cute. It just looks well from front and side view. In CGI she looks just gorgeous, exactly like my basic lagoona doll. and she has her earrings that she hasn't in any other thing expet the doll. And other characters looks great, the hair could be done better but programes for that are really expensive even for mattel,a nd they do wings and long hair at same time, something that Barbie in movies never did. I don't like the shadow backgrounders but it is lasiness 'cause a lot of webisode backgrounders have appear i CGI, you know like that ice mokey and fish boy. But they preffer using lots of Toraleis and boys using Jackson's clothes.

Tough there are some characters that I preffer in flash animation, like Heath, Robecca and Rochelle.

Also I preffer how the shool and catacombs looks in CGI, much scarier.

CGI it's not perfect but for what it is and how expensive can be it's good and with luck with the years it will looks better, and don't forget someone with some animation talent can do a webisode in flash animation but you can't do at home the CGI animation.

Anyways I like them how they are, CGI for the specials and movies and flash animation for the cartoons, and it's great how it is. Flash is the classic and the first we had and CGI was 2012 suprise.

I do like a lot the animation for the commercials, but that is for commercials that I like, well they don't seem very expressive just very pretty like the artworks. Perfect would have it in all commercials, it would made all commercials special at some point.

Yeah I've noticed that in many CGI related things. Normally there isn't much effort put into background characters. Just take an already made model and change a few colours here and there. Normally as more specials are made and newer characters are added to the series they sometimes end up being background characters or the designs from them are taken, changed around a bit, and background character.

Although heck, that happens with background characters in flash related stuff too. Take the same faces most of the time, give a different hairstyle and outfit and colour scheme, and that's that.

In the flash stuff?    Not really, at least that I've noticed.... heck-- look at the tons of characters created for "Fright On" alone.... most of which didn't get any dialog.  So many cute Werewolf boys and girls. so many cool Vamp boys and girls..... forget about the standard webisodes with tons of individual character designs (many of whom have become CAMs).. They literally have a good y2 years worth of dolls they could create just from "Fright On".

with the CGI you're lucky to get the mixed up fake "Toralei" or that CAM cat girl (often with elephant ears...groan..) or literally black and gray silhouettes-- no character design at all! :(

Okay, this is a REALLY hard choice.

On the one hand, flash animation came first, and matches the artwork of the boxes more or less. It is the animation that I was first introduced into, and holds a special place to my heart.

On the other hand, all the characters look the same to me.

CGI makes all the characters look different from each other, and they look "realistic" (kinda, you know what I mean) Plus, it shows a whole other side of the characters, and I think that the movements are great. Plus, like camila said, the catacombs and the school are much more awesome in CGI.

However, the CGI is much less unique. I mean, even Barbie movies are CGI. And Clawdeen's hair SUCKS.

...Like I said, this is a VERY difficult choice. I seriously can't choose.

I like the way the chars look in both the CGI and flash but I feel like the colors look strange in the CGI movies--very dull. If they ever make a cartoon series of MH I would rather it be in flash/2D.

i actually prefer CGI because well..monsters are supposed to be scary and everything in CGI looks scarier since its more darker and everything looks more realistic honestly i LOVE CGI i mean look at the eyes *.* amazing.

i never liked the flash animation one -.-

it just seems too..too pink >__> i hate pink (most of the time)

the CGI added a more realisticness to them so i really liked it c: i hope to one day see some teachers and
