Face Mold Changes-who's had them and any photos. And opinions

So I know that Spectra had a big change in her face mold not too long ago, but I was wondering if any other characters had a new mold as well and if there were any pictures.

Different makeup for the same doll is cool too. For example I have been hearing that the re-release Frankie W1 had different makeup. I have been looking all over for that but can't find anything.

Thoughts?

The only mold change has been Spectra.

To further, the only molds that have been reused have been Cupid (Ghoulia's), and Catrine (Werecat Twin's). Catty is likely a reused Werecat as well (not sure if she's a twin or Toralei).

As far as makeup changes in re-releases, nothing actually changes, but sometimes the application process may not be identical that creates changes - this can also be due to differences between the two factories.

Abbey's eyes are a perfect example - she looks quite different between her China & Indonesian versions. China tends to screen her eyes bigger, where as Indonesia are a bit smaller, and upturned as well.

I also know the Wave 2 Frankie looked different between the original release and the later re-release. I think her eyes were printed larger.

I'd like to think that SO Lagoona's face mold was altered slightly between her first and second release. Photo example:

[Source: My Dolls Are My Models on Flickr] The second release is on the left. Her face looks flatter and wider, in general. The other differences may only lie in the factory paint job, but her eyes are set further apart and lower, and her lips are fatter.

Another one I've seen some variance on is Basic Cleo.

[Source: hjameson.tumblr.com] I believe the second release is on the left, again. Her face looks leaner, longer; and her eyes are smaller. This example could very well be Chinese vs. Indonesian manufacturing.

Thanks for this!

The Lagoona definitely has a makeup change for sure. And I see wider jaws on the Cleo on the right.

I think that Operetta's DDG version was rather different than the others, especially her Basic. (I am comparing these two because they were released rather close together) I am sorry, I do not have a side by side comparison picture, but look at these:

I don't know, to me they look very different. It's probably just the eye makeup, but still.

Does anyone have photos of the old and new Spectra face mold?

In this review there are comparison pics of all (?) yet released Spectra and it seems they've changed her face a bit multiple times http://voicething.blogspot.se/2013/01/review-spectra-vondergeist-as...

I can upload one. I dont know whether one is an initial release one or wave 2 though since I actually found her after her wave 2 release when she was no longer being shipped but the difference is pretty profound which is why I purchased her. Her box was no help either because it was actually a Spectra in a Schools Out Clawdeen box. Its an even bigger difference than the voicething picture and seeing the doll I have makes me very sad that they changed the way she looks :(

I really apologize for the photo quality, but I snapped a quick pic of the Spectras I have with me. From left to right - very first release Sig. Spectra, Sig. Spectra Wave 2 release (not re-release), DDG, then Picture Day. I've also got a few of the signature re-releases, but they're back in storage with my college stuff. I'm a bit of a(n old face mold) Spectra nut!

There is definitely a difference between Wave 2 and Wave 1 Sig. Spectras, but I'm not so sure about Wave 1 and the re-release version. They seem to be close to identical.

Most everything noted in here is based off of placement of eyes/face-up. This can be different from doll to doll, and has nothing to do with the actual mold. Also, there can be deformations in the plastic after the fact, i've seen dolls with 'flatter' heads, like they were somehow slightly squished. This again, isn't a mold-change. Molds are WAY too expensive to make, they don't just change them up from line to line. There will be slightl differences between the 2 factories though, because the mold may not be 100% identical when it was created.

Spectra's original mold was used on her signature (wave 1) doll and DDG. Picture Day, Power Ghoul and GNO used the 2nd (newer mold).

IIRC, Power ghoul uses the original facemold?

I think it's really fascinating to see the trends between different releases, facemolds or factory paint, cause kinda makes each one look like they have their own unique personalities :)

No, Power Ghouls is the new mold. Only the signature & dot dead gorgeous used the original mold.
