News and Reviews of Monster High Dolls, Plush Toys, and More!

Hi everyone, Ive decided to start a list database of dolls known to have glue seepage or bad frizzy hair issues to help us when we want to buy a certain doll.

these are all the dolls I own that have issues so far, please contribute if you like as well.

BTW if the doll is from China, please specify, as Im curious if its true that the dolls with problems are only from Indonesia. If you dont have the box it will say where the doll is from on the back of their torsos.

UPDATE 2018

Actually, School's out Lagoona has a glue free version made in China and a glue head version made in Indonesia.

I was wondering if anybody else has a leaking first wave Lagoona?

Also, i am curious if anybody has any leaking reboot dolls.

They also have glue free versions and glue head versions of the same doll, and they do this with the dolls made in China.

I can add to the list dolls made in China available with a glue head and glue free version:

Cleo Creepateria

Dead tired and Dot Dead Gorgeous Spectra (yes, I know it's crazy!)

All the Shrieck Wrecked dolls made in China have a glue free version and a glue head version

Schools out, some dolls are made in Indonesia

Freak Du Chic Clawdeen and Gloom and Bloom Cleo and Jinafire exist in both version too. I have 2 Clawdeens (I love that Clawdeen, so spectacular!) and one has a glue head. How awful!

.............

Sorry, all the Dead Tired Spectra I have squeezed the heads had no glue. Dot Dead Gorgeous has 2 versions, with and without. And Signature Spectra has one version made in Indonesia with glue.

EVER AFTER HIGH DOLLS

I have to mention the terrible seepage of EAH dolls. My first wave Madeline is leaking badly. When I lift her hair, I am horrified. I don't want to destroy the curls so I left her like that...for now. It puts me off buying EAH even second hand if they have a hard head. Luckily, I don't have many of them and it will probably stay that way. If they have a hard head, I will not buy them in car boot sales.

EAH dolls glue free:

Signature Ginger

Signature first release Lizzie

Faybelle (I am happy these 3 are glue free, they are some of my favourites!)

Getting fairest raven exists without glue, I have one.

Way to Wonderland kitty has glue free and glue heads versions too. She is still in box but I squeezed her head when I bought her (lol) I will definitely check her to make sure.

thanks Tula Shadowy!

UPDATE 2019 (glue leak)

Day at the Maul Draculaura (Indonesia)

Scaris Draculaura

Diner Draculaura

Catty Noir 13 wishes

Cleo dawn of the dance

Frankie Sweet 1600 (so bad leek)

2015 Re-release of Gloom Beach Frankie

Scaris Skelita

Art Class Skelita

Catty Noir New Scaremester

from Tula Shadowy

All the bloody original Gloom Beach line (Ghoulia is only leaking mildly. It is s a sort of miracle, I hope it will last.)

And Signature Nefera to add to the list too. Most of the original dolls made in Indonesia do leak (original Ghoulia has 2 versions, one made in Indonesia and one made in China. The doll made in China has no sign of glue seepage. Same for Spectra made in China).

I didnt include stuff like bald spots and bad face paint b/c that tends to be more a hit or miss thing but I'll include it.

I have 13 Wishes Twyla boxed and now that i know about yours, she's staying that way!

Twyla was the first MH doll I ever got and yeah her hair is super sticky. I was basically forced to wash it to make it at least decent.

School's out Lagoona has glue seepage too it was rather sticky, also New Scaremester Catty dose too.

I'm not sure about seepage in my Robecca but her hair was curly when I got her and it's not now has that ever happened before to anyone?

Schools Out Lagoona is from China so thats an unusual case of a Chinese made doll having that issue. I think some dolls may be made in different locations too. Like i noticed on Amazon Coffin Bean Robecca says its from China but I just went to a store today that had the doll and the box said Indonesia so either that or Amazon has the info wrong.

Did you brush your Robecca doll's hair? that may have gotten the curls out. Or the weight of her hair may have straightened out the curls if they werent set with hair gel.

I might have brushed her hair when I got her I think I did that to all of them, yes I don't remember them being set with any gel, her hair keeps getting caught on her antenna thing on her googles a lot I don't think that has anything to do with it but worth a mention, though I believe it happens with all Robeccas that have the goggles.

How amazing to find that thread! I did not even know there was one. I have found it checking glue seepage generally, not on this Forum. I will never become used to that glue thing, never...

Actually, School's out Lagoona has a glue free version made in China and a glue head version made in Indonesia. Impossible to win with Mattel if we want to buy older second hand dolls from E-bay! lol

I have bought recently a Lagoona first wave in a car boot sale. She is in excellent condition missing her fins, necklace and flower only. She was £1 so I am amazed to have found this doll, and so cheap too. It is very uncanny!

She unfortunately had terrible glue seepage. The glue stained her hood. Her hair was so gluey, she looked nearly...bold when I removed the hood. It is a shame as she has been hardly played with if at all. I have fixed the disastrous seepage with talcum powder. She does not look bold anymore! Poor Lagoona! She has so much glue in her head that it can hardly move down. She is a bit stuck looking up. It is a shame. I really like her a lot, she is adorable, nearly as pretty as my School's out Lagoona! School's out is gorgeous...and glue free ;-)

Well, that's all I can think of at the moment.

If you experienced any newer dolls leaking, please add them.

I know, it seems I am the only one left upset with this glue seepage crap. It really annoys me highly. It also ruins some of the enjoyment of collecting these dolls.

i am glad I have found this thread and revive it!

Sorry, all the Dead Tired Spectra I have squeezed the heads had no glue. Dot Dead Gorgeous has 2 versions, with and without. And Signature Spectra has one version made in Indonesia with glue.

hey Tula Shadowy, thanks for the info! I had originally made this thread(and totally forgotten about it, lol) but only found your reply today. I have been insanely busy these days but I will update the first post shortly, though I'll probably just copy/paste your list as an add on.

btw now there's another reason to hate the glue. I just discovered my GNO Spectra has her whole head stained YELLOW all around her outer hairline! its all over her forehead, around her ears and back of her neck! shes pretty much trashed at this point!  I had held on to her b/c despite having so much glue, it covered her head so uniformly that it gave her this sorta cool sleek stringy Japanese horror movie ghost look, it actually looked neat & suited her, lol. But now? I doubt the yellowing is removable but Im gonna try using zit cream method anyway.  And now I also have to check my other light skinned dolls to see if they've gotten yellowed too, when I can find the time as I have alot of dolls. Sigh, I see myself just selling off or donating a lot of trashed dolls in the future. THANKS MATTEL!

Oh I am so sorry to hear that. Poor Spectra. I did not treat mine with talcum powder. I will have to check her.

I know the glue stains the dolls' vinyl. Two of my Frankies are stained yellow near their hairlines (signature and I heart fashion. As you said, thanks Mattel!!). I also watched a Youtube video where the guy was showing his Gloom Beach Frankie with her face stained yellow because of the glue. Picture day Abbey is stained too. A lot of my dolls are stored. I will have to check them all. I will store the glue free and the glue heads separately when I will have more time. It really infuriates me this evil glue. I can't believe some people don't notice.

I went to a car boot sale last Sunday and I have seen 2 Diner Draculauras with hard heads leaking glue. Another case of a doll made in China with a glue free and a glue head versions. Mine is absolutely glue free. Also Spectra 13 wishes has a glue head and glue free version. sigh... It makes it even worse that a lot of the dolls made in china exist in two versions. It's insane. I suppose they must have one factory in China still using the old machines.

I feel sorry for the people who have hundreds of MH dolls and who bought them new. At least a lot of my collection is second hand. I feel less ripped off!!

I don't buy hard heads dolls in car boot sales anymore unless they are rare like Lagoona. I am sick of the glue problem. None of my other dolls have this problem, only recent Mattel dolls. If they carry on like that maybe the glue will finish them! I am sure the DC Super hero girls will leak. This is why I did not buy any.

sigh...

oh gosh I forgot about EAH. Most of my EAH dolls are still mint in their boxes. I think I only have 3 or 4 loose and I dont think they have glue seep. I have alot of boxed dolls, both EAH and MH, stored in my "doll" closet and in shelves throughout my home, I cant even imagine how terrible they must be with the glue. I also have the Barbie Fashionistas and the later post 2000's Mattel Disney princess dolls to worry about. Really, the Mattel made dolls of the last decade just aren't made for collecting, but for playing and disposing of, which is a shame.

Fortunately I think they are finally switching from leaking glue to cheaper nylon hair to deal with the issue, and although the cheaper hair isn't ideal, its better than glue that destroys the doll's vinyl and its clothing!

The switch is too late for Monster High unfortunately!

I have noticed MH dolls have the tendency to discoulor quite fast and easily. The glue just accelerate the process. It is worse on the light coloured dolls obviously. I am really worried for my Spectras. Her face tends to become yellowish even without the help of the bloody glue. I will check all Spectras and use talcum powder on the hard heads. I have enough worries...I don't need to worry for my Monsters too! lol

I unboxed Lagoona Picture Day a few months ago. I don't know why I left her in her box for so long. She was the first MH doll I ever found reduced in store... what an event!! Hell, she had been leaking glue in her box. How awful.

Good luck with the zit cream method. Let me know how it went.

Hello,

The Re-boot is clearly doomed, too!   :(

Apparently, chemically clean petrol (Please don't try at home!) is the only way to really, truly lick the "Glue Head Syndrome" issue.

http://multicrafteral.blogspot.com/2013/10/gloo-hair-mystery-solved...

To quote from the above URL:

Hi! My daughter just got a really expensive Barbie as a gift. She was delighted, although said pretty much immediately that the hair felt sticky. She was with her grandparents then and they said no when she wanted to wash the hair (she's 6 and messy). Anyway, she got home and immediately washed the hair with soap, and it got even more sticky. She was really upset, cried and wanted to throw it away. I'm a chemistry teacher, so I figured it was glue that leaked out. So... The best thing to remove glue is actually chemically clean petrol. Where we live (Sweden) we can purchase small bottles from where we would buy paint. So I soaked a cotton wipe and tried a small part of the hair (had to try that it didn't cause any other reaction). That strand of hair is now ok, so I will try the rest of the hair later. Her grandparents saved the receipt from the store, so last option would be returning the doll. Anyway, I thougt it was weird that a doll would leak glue, so I googled it and found this thread.
