News and Reviews of Monster High Dolls, Plush Toys, and More!

Hi everyone :)

If you would like the torsos in matching colors for your CAM, I would like to encourage you all to write nice letters to Mattel telling them you would like to be able to get the full body parts to be able to create all the different colored dolls in the CAM sets.

A little background...

I am new here (joined about a week ago). I came looking for a Monster High forum and have been browsing the threads enjoying the content here.

I recently bought the CAM sets for the Vampire/Sea Monster starter and the Skeleton add-on and was very sad about the lack of the torso for the sea monster since she was the one I really wanted to make and the pink body looks ridiculous for her. I contacted Mattel about my frustrations and explained that I love the CAM idea, but the lack of torsos in the right colors limits things greatly and is very disappointing. I was very nice and made sure not to just be a complainer lol I suggested a few ideas that might help fix this issue as well.

This is the reply I received:

Mattel has come through again for me with their awesome customer service! (They also came through for me before Christmas when I bought a Abbey for my daughter at Walmart and found she had two left hands. They sent me a replacement doll right away.) I can't believe they are so nice to send that voucher! I am one happy customer!

I just hope they do provide the torsos as I requested. I really want that sea monster and the three eyed girl especially. I am hoping if more people contact them about it they will consider it even more important, so this is why I suggest emailing them using this form on their website: http://service.mattel.com/us/EmailContact.aspx

All the best!

Thanks for the info Sarah! I will try this because I'm obsessive compulsive and the mismatched torsos really bother me.

Also, off topic, but I'm also a BJD collector and I love your Wonderlings! Especially Flicker, Shelly, Crikey, and Scratch! Well, all of them actually! If I don't win a Yo-SD Jun Tachibana in the VolksUSA lottery, I'd really like to bring a Flicker home with me. :)

thanks for the link -- while I'd wouldn't say no to a voucher I am thrilled just to give them some feedback on these sets. I'm so disappointed in how they ended up; I really thought they would be dolls you could mix and match as you liked -- but DOLLS, not loads and loads of extra parts you end up with if you want to actually keep your finished doll. My daughter made a hybrid were-dragon girl from the starter pack we found and she loves her -- there's no way she's going to take her apart so as far as I know I am done buying CAMs. I'm sure we'd have bought every single one if they made complete dolls -- she could have still played mix and match but the finished dolls would have been much more affordable.

I sent them an email because I love the idea of the CAMs, but it is definitely annoying to have lots of extra parts lying around. Hopefully if they continue to get these emails, they will either add a torso to the starter packs or make a torso pack.

Can you imagine a torso pack? It'd help but it'd be a little frightening XD

But good on Mattel for being so game about Monster High! They know which side of their bread is buttered XD

I'd love it. If they kept it where the starter packs only came with one torso and the add ons don't have come with one, then the torso pack would help with that by having an extra torso for the starter packs and then a torso for each of the add ons.

That's really interesting that you got that response, and super lucky for you! That's really awesome and I'm glad they were receptive to your feedback. I actually shot them an email from the same source, about the same thing, and was super polite and complimentary as well, and this is what I got:

Your unsolicited e-mail submission has been forwarded to Mattel's Consumer Relations Department for response.

As you may be aware, Mattel, which was founded in the mid-20th century, is the world's largest toy company.  Because of our size and our prominence, we have a large staff of designers and each year we also receive thousands of unsolicited submissions from third parties such as you.

For these and other reasons, we do not review any unsolicited materials -- except for those that we receive from professional design houses and toy brokers with whom we have preexisting relationships.   Accordingly, your e-mail was examined only to the minimal extent necessary to determine its nature and otherwise no notice was taken of its content.   Under our practice, the employee who was the original recipient of your e-mail forwarded the e-mail to our Consumer Relations Department and has deleted the e-mail (along with any attachments) from their computer system.  Your e-mail was not forwarded to anyone else within Mattel.   Your original e-mail will also be deleted from the Consumer Relations Department's system.

Please note that, in light of the enormous number of ideas, concepts, and materials that Mattel develops in-house and that are suggested to it by third parties, it's likely that the ideas, concepts, and/or materials that you submitted to us embody ideas, concepts, and/or materials that are identical or substantially similar to those that, in the past, were developed by our staff or submitted to us by third parties.  Likewise, in the future, we may without any reference to your unsolicited submission, develop or receive from third parties ideas, concepts, and materials that are identical or substantially similar to those submitted by you.

Since Mattel won't retain or review your submission, any similarities that may exist between your submission and any product from Mattel or any Mattel company are purely coincidental.  Please note that Mattel doesn't assume any obligation in connection with your unsolicited submission, including any obligation to keep it confidential and any obligation to notify you whether your ideas, concepts, or materials are identical or substantially similar to those that are developed by or submitted to Mattel.

So they pretty much just deleted my email. Cool story, bros.

Thats great i might call them soon

Kerin Elisabeth: That's sad about the response you received, I would have been shocked if I got that one back. They must have interpreted your email as an idea submission and mine as a customer concern.

In a nutshell (my email was quite long)... I began by saying how awesome I think the CAM idea is and how me and my two daughters collect Monster High dolls. I then explained my frustration with the lack of torsos and how sad I was that I couldn't make the sea monster. I then suggested that they would have a lot to gain from releasing torsos in all the different colors with some suggestions of how they could package them (won't mention them here since I don't know if they would like me to or not in case they are actually considering any of them). I am very hopeful that I will be able to make my sea monster someday :)

Don't forget you'll need upper arms and legs for the add-ons as well! I'd really rather they just retooled the line as complete dolls that you assemble so you can buy just a bee girl if you like, or a werewolf, or you can buy a bunch and mix and match like crazy!

That was pretty much exactly what I wrote to them! I wish I had a copy of what I submitted. I started off by saying how much I love the idea of it and my love for the MH collection but that my frustration with the CAM packs is the lack of torsos and different colors for them, and how I appreciate how their line is very affordable but to buy an entire new pack for just one extra torso is difficult and that it would be neat if they each came with two. Something along those lines. You're right though! It was probably all in the wording. Hopefully they listen to your advice and come through for all of us who support the creation of more torsos :)

that's really strange -- did you write a while ago? maybe now that they're getting more feedback they're taking it as a problem rather than "a fan's idea"? I'm wondering which response I'll get -- I can't remember if I said that they should do anything specific, or just that I was not happy and not going to buy my daughter anymore.
