News and Reviews of Monster High Dolls, Plush Toys, and More!

Don't get me wrong, I personally love MH, more than I think my 6 year old does, since I feel I started this whole obsession anyways. But I've been losing interest in collecting them... mostly because it's become impossible to find them... I went from wanting every single doll, to wanting only new characters... My daughter has almost 70... and I'm just not feeling the love anymore with MH... When a new doll is announced it becomes more like "oh god, not another one, i just paid my credit card bill off" instead of the old "omg! a new doll! a new line, must have!"...

My daughter and I still love the MH dolls we have, and we're excited to get Jinafire, Catrine, and Bloodgood, but other than that, neither of us feel all that drawn to owning every single one... I think it was the exclusives and scalpers that ruined it for us... hunting isn't as fun as it once was...

I may be alone in this, I just wondered if anyone else felt burnt out on them...

I feel the exact same way. It's become exhausting.

Hm, I was allready wondering when this was gonna happen to alot of fans and collectors. I most certainly think you are not alone with this.

Personally I never felt the urge to collect every single doll (trying to limit to one doll per character), so I'm still excited for dolls that catch my interest.

But seeing how much dolls they put out, how hard some of them are to come by and how many of them are exclusive, I can see why an all-dolls-collector gets tired of this. I think alot of fans started feeling this way after the Scarah/ Hoodude fiasco, and it's only getting worse now with how Mattel handles Scaris Jinafire and Deuce.

I hope Mattel will fix this problem in time before fans get turned off too much, and quit MH altogether. Especially because there are quite a few competitors with the monster theme going on, so a switch to one of those lines is not such a huge step anymore.

Trying to collect every single doll would make most of us go insane.  You should just refocus on the ones you truly love (which, it sounds like you are already doing).  People are taking it way to seriously.  Yes, I am bummed that I missed out on Torelai and Holt Hyde (others too but, those are ones I particularly want), but, I honestly think that they will be released some time in the future in different fashions like most popular dolls are.  I don't try to pull all my hair out in frustration or run up credit card debt in order to collect dolls.

It's supposed to be fun, right?

We only collect one doll of each character. She has 23 dolls and I already think that is expensive. lol. I have been getting upset about the scalpers. And also the people that do those custom things. I think that's what they are called. I know some people on here do that. So I don't mean to offend. But I see so many of the dolls on ebay for sale, and they have been stripped, and painted, or whatever. The custom dolls are pretty. But if mattel is only making so many of the certain ones. It kinda sucks if a bunch of people are buying them just to paint them or remake them. That's my thoughts. But I am new to all this. Only been collecting monster high dolls for a year with my daughter. And I just recently signed up on this site. So I am a newbie. So if I'm wrong please correct me. But could that be some of the problem too? The scalpers, plus the people that buy the dolls to customize them, equals lack of dolls for regular buyers? I also don't understand why people take the clothes off the dolls and sell them individually and then also sell the dolls nude? I guess thats the whole custom thing too?

they make more money this way... which is a shame... i see some dolls with all pieces for 50, or the nude doll for 40 and the outfit for 20... i have a heck of a time spending 20 on an outfit for me, i won't be spending 20 on a dolls outfit that my daughter will likely lose. i don't care for the customs either, if they are doing it to the shelf sitters, the ones that sit there week after week, thats one thing, but it kills me to see someone customize a deuce, or a holt... if is their doll to keep, thats their problem, but when they buy up 20-30 dolls and do it, then its frustrating to know what became of that doll my child so desperately wanted. to each their own i suppose.

there are very few dolls we don't have (70 is how many she has... there are many many more hiding in the basement waiting for holidays and birthdays... and luckily we have been able to get our hands on every single original character at retail... even scarah/hoodude... so really my time has been spent finding all the others... and i'm done with all of that... i'm just sticking to new characters now... even my daughter has talked about selling a few of her dolls... not sure that she'll follow through with it, but they are her dolls... and i only formed attachments to the basics... so it wouldn't bother me.

Charlize's mom. How long have you been collecting monster high dolls?

since they were first released... i'd say christmas 2010 was when we bought our first one though, it was the original draculaura, i was hooked, but it took me a while to talk my husband into letting me buy one for our daughter who was 4 at the time....

My daughter hated barbie dolls. So I was very surprised when she liked monster high dolls. So we didn't start collecting till last black friday. 2011. It was cool though because we got Draculaura, Ghoulia, lagoona, cleo, and clawdeen for $10 each. The ones with the diary and pet. I was hoping they would do that with this last black friday. They did have the $10 monster high dolls but they were just three characters. And we only collect one doll of each character so I didn't buy those. I would love to collect more, but just don't have the money to. I am glad my daughter doesn't ask for more. I like buying the dolls off amazon.com. That is easiest, but lately they have been more expensive.

I don't think I've burnt out because I'm not a completionist. I buy what I like and nothing more. I'm not going to exhaust myself getting them all because this is how things become NOT fun to me. You gotta do right by you.

yea prices are going up everyday for the dolls that aren't released anymore... and they'll keep going up till they re-release them... wish they would re-release toralei and gil for all the people that didn't get them... it really wasn't a long enough release for either. we had a ton of toraleis here at our justice store for about a month, and then they were gone, then it went onto operetta and nefera at that point. i only ever found one gil, and snatched him up, even before i knew how hard he was going to be to get. i have a scaris deuce i found when our store finally got some, and if i didn't want him i would of passed him along here, but since there aren't many boys, we keep those, she likes all her girls to have boyfriends.

lol she likes all her girls to have boyfriends. That is cute.

Eh, I don't know how I feel anymore. I can tell that the initial enthusiasm I had has disappeared, for sure. Now it's more like "New doll? Oh, cool. Which animal have they picked this time instead of a classic monster?" instead of "New doll! OMG YAY! Must have her NOW! Look at all her cool details!"

I have also gotten extremely frustrated with the Scarah and Hoodude fiasco, and the fact that some cases don't even contain some of the most sought-after dolls. What. Are. They. Thinking?? They know FULL WELL which dolls we want. Why don't they release them already, instead of re-releasing Sweet 1600 over and over? (One member has reported in one thread that their shop has put on shelves a brand new case of Sweet 1600)

Draculaura will technically be 1601 soon, but Mattel will still insist on her being 1600!
